Best Ph.D. Student Paper
Awards
Sponsored by the ACM-SIGSIM and
INFORMS-Sim societies
Overview
INFORMS-Sim and ACM-SIGSIM award two Best Student Paper prizes
among students close to graduation, and participating in the
Ph.D. colloquium at WSC 2009. There will be two winners, and
each award includes a sum of $200. To qualify, your full paper
must be accepted or invited for presentation in any of the
regular conference sessions, and you must be the presenting
author. Co-authorship is allowed, but the student must be
the primary co-author (first author). Additionally, you must
participate in both the presentation session, and the poster
session. This will facilitate the judging process.
Eligibility of Candidates and Judging Criteria
Candidate papers will come from those submitted and accepted
through the regular submission process for WSC 2009. In order
to be qualified for the best student paper awards, you must
be:
- a student at the WSC conference dates. For example, you
will qualify for the WSC 2009 awards if you graduate in
December 2009 or later, but not if you graduated, say, in
May 2009.
- the primary and presenting author at the conference. You
may be disqualified if the judges determine that you are
not familiar enough with the work to be its primary author.
- willing to participate in the Ph.D. colloquium, and showing
your work in both the presentation session, and the poster
session.
Judging
The judges of the awards will be the I-SIM
and ACM-SIGSIM Ph.D. Colloquium committee members, and possibly
others as determined by these committees. Input from colloquium
audience members may also be sought.
The judges will attend the Ph.D. Colloquium
and rank the finalists based on their papers and poster presentations.
Candidates will be judged on the quality of the papers, as
well as their interactions with the judges at the colloquium.
A clear and concise presentation at the poster session establishing
the relevance, importance and depth of the work will carry
high weightage. The judges will jointly determine the two
winners shortly after the conclusion of the Ph.D. Colloquium,
and make appropriate notifications, including to the WSC General
and/or Program Chairs.
Award Announcement
The announcement of the winners of the awards
will be made at the WSC plenary session on Monday.
