WSC 2008 Simulation 101 Workshop

Sunday, December 7
1:00 - 8:00 pm

by Barry Lawson, Associate Professor of Computer Science, University of Richmond
and Larry Leemis, Professor of Computational Operations Research, The College of William & Mary

Who should attend?
This pre-conference workshop is designed for newcomers to Monte Carlo and discrete-event simulation. The target audience consists of managers, computer scientists and engineers with programming skills, who have minimal exposure to probability, statistics, and simulation. Familiarity with a high-level programming language is helpful.

Why should you attend?
Attending the workshop will help newcomers to simulation assimilate the technical sessions presented at WSC '08. Due to the limited time, the workshop will be very light on theory and general notions, but heavy on intuition associated with simulation. This will be accomplished by running through the conceptual, algorithmic and implementation portions of the development of several simple Monte Carlo and discrete-event simulation models. Those implementations will then be executed and modified during the lab times.

How does it Work?
Participants will bring their own laptop computers; they will download a suite of simulation programs prior to the workshop. Participants then run and modify the programs during the lab portions of the workshop.

You must register for the WSC '08 conference to attend Simulation 101. The workshop fee is $100.

Workshop schedule will be posted later.
